The Project

Empire Post needed imaginative, child-like capes drawn over the children, creating a playful, hand-drawn aesthetic. The process involved a back-and-forth between animation and live-action footage, using alternating frame rates to achieve an organic, hand-drawn feel.

To capture the rough, tactile quality of the capes, we began with traditional sketches over the footage, refining the movement and shape in each shot. These were then brought into After Effects, where we animated the paths and applied a textured finish to evoke the look and feel of chalk drawings.
